The Last Love Letter

Yetunde found the envelope on Valentine’s Day, tucked inside her jewellery box, exactly where Bayo knew she would look. On it, in his familiar handwriting was written: “My Love.”

Inside was a single page.

“Yetunde, My Love. Loving you is the easiest thing ever. Protecting you is the most important. Everything is taken care of. You’ll never have to fight for what’s yours. This is my promise. Forever yours, Bayo.”

She looked up, startled, and saw him standing at the doorway, smiling.

“What is this?” she asked.

“My promise,” Bayo said gently. “I went to FCMB Trustees last month. I gave instructions for my Will.”

The Conversation Most Couples Avoid

“A Will?” Yetunde whispered. “Is something wrong?”

“No,” he replied. “But I watched Femi’s widow struggle for years after he died—no access to accounts, family disputes, children’s school fees at risk. He loved his family, but he left no plan.”

He squeezed her hand. “Love isn’t just what we do when we’re together. It’s also what we do to protect the people we love when we’re gone.”

“What about your family?” she asked.

“They won’t be able to contest anything. Everything is documented. You won’t have to fight anyone while grieving. That wouldn’t be love.”

Yetunde nodded slowly. “So this… this is how you love me?”

“This,” Bayo said, “is how I protect you forever.”

What Love Plans in Silence

Bayo never shared the details of his Will. He didn’t need to. He only told her this:

“You’re protected. When the time comes—God forbid it’s soon—FCMB Trustees will handle everything. No confusion. No delays.”

That assurance wrapped around Yetunde like a quiet shield.

Three months later, she surprised him.

“Your turn,” she said, holding her car keys.
